A Hundred Thousand Welcomes!

We are the Ladies Ancient Order Of Hibernians, St. Brigid Division # 1 located in Monroe County, Pennsylvania.

The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians was organized in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1894 as the “Daughters of Erin,” which pledged itself to God and Country. At the National Convention of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (organized in 1836 in New York) held in Saratoga Springs in 1906, the name of the organization was changed to the Ladies Auxiliary to the Ancient Order of Hibernians and functioned as a separate organization. At the National Convention in 1984 held in Albany, New York, the name was changed to the “Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians.” At its founding, the primary purpose of the LAOH was to protect young immigrant Irish girls, assist them in securing employment, and provide social interaction with Irish and Irish Americans to help them from becoming homesick and discouraged.

The motto of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians is “Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity.” St. Brigid is the patron saint of our organization. Our purpose is to promote Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity among our members, to foster and sustain loyalty to our country and community, to aid and advance by legitimate means the aspirations and endeavors of all Irish people for a Irish Republic which shall include all 32 counties of Ireland, to promote Irish history, traditions, and culture, and to support the Church through mission work and Catholic action activities.

Our organization is open to all Catholic women who are of Irish descent or married to someone of Irish descent and at least 16 years of age.

We are currently looking for new members to join us.

Our meetings are held the third Sunday of the month at the Pocono Inne Town in Stroudsburg, PA unless otherwise noted. Please bring any friends along who may be interested in joining us.

REMINDER!

The Stroudsburg, PA. Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade will be held on THIS coming Sunday, March 21, 2010 at 1:30pm.

Congratulations once again to John Riley who has graciously accepted to be the 2010 Saint Patrick's Day Parade Grand Marshal

The parade covers a distance of not quite two miles, beginning in the borough of Stroudsburg and ending in East Stroudsburg so make sure to wear comfortable shoes and don't forget to wear your Green!

Breathtaking Views!

I just came by this beautiful video of Ireland accompanied by one of the most beautiful Irish songs ever written. Ahhh well, I guess I'm a wee bit bias when it comes to the song. ;=)

ENJOY!

Urgent Pro-Life Action Needed

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops issued the attached bulletin
announcement about the upcoming vote on the healthcare bill. Because of
the short time frame involved, it is unlikely that it will make it into
many parish bulletins and a vote is expected in the next week. There is
a great deal of misinformation being publicized to support the Senate
version of the healthcare bill (including an endorsement by the misnamed
Catholic Health Association) . The bottom line is that the bishops'
spokesman has stated that the Senate version of this bill "fails our
moral criteria". Please pass this bulletin insert along to as many
people as possible and call your representative as soon as possible.

Yours in friendship, Unity and Christian charity,

John Cunniff

Stroudsburg, PA St. Patrick's Day Parade

The Stroudsburg, PA. Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade will be held on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at 1:30pm The parade covers a distance of not quite two miles, beginning in the borough of Stroudsburg and ending in East Stroudsburg. The parade is funded through various fund raising efforts by the Pocono Irish American Club, and through the generosity of Parade and Band Sponsors. The event has evolved into one of the premier parades in Pennsylvania and the surrounding area.
O God,

by whose providence the blessed Patrick
was chosen to be the apostle of the Irish;
that thus the people of Hibernia,
who had gone astray in darkness
and in the errors of the Gentiles,
might be made children of the Most High
by the laver of regeneration:
Grant, we beseech thee,
that by his intercession,
we may hasten without delay
to the paths of justice.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
From the Breviary of Armagh, cited in The Liturgical Year: Vol. 5

A wonderful Saint Patrick’s Day to all our brother & sister Hibernians.

Pray today for Peace and Justice in Ireland and through out the world. May all the men & women who exhibit the best examples of St Patrick’s character lead the parades and celebrations May God Bless the Irish, the Hibernians and the Roman Catholic Church especially in this year of the priest.
